Overview

The Circle of Sorcerers is an ancient initiatory lineage of magic practitioners who pursue the awakening of one’s connection to their life force and, by extension, the ability to manipulate the energy of the Universe. The Shrine of Sorcery of Dendronia acts as a place of spiritual practice, worship, and mystical knowledge, attracting many Mitrasperans who wish to follow the esoteric teachings of the Path and develop a deeper connection with the Divine and their innate power.

Once an initiate reaches a certain point in their progression, they are asked by their Master to venture into the world and establish their own Shrine of Sorcery to teach the philosophy and practices of the order. Dendronia’s Shrine of Sorcery was founded by Hilas in the year 1325. It acts as a hub for magic practitioners in the camp, serves as a place of mystical teachings, and supports the Thrones of Dendronia and all other guilds of the camp.

The Path

Despite the name, very few initiates of the Circle of Sorcerers are born with innate magical powers. Most develop their abilities by following the Circle’s system of philosophy and experiential practices — also known as the Path.

The practices of the Path have been passed from master to students over many generations and include daily meditations, rituals, and progressively more difficult initiatory challenges. They are designed to cultivate a practitioner’s ability to channel their life force and ultimately lead to experiential realizations of deeper truths about reality itself.

In other words, magic powers are only a by-product of the Path. In fact, one who has mastered the ability to channel their life force can become a master of any skill they choose to pursue — or even learn new skills very rapidly. For this reason, the Circle of Sorcerers counts among its ranks many students who devoted themselves to the arts of combat, music, diplomacy, or the crafts, as well as many polymaths who chose not to focus on any single discipline.

However, the art of sorcery is considered the Supreme Art, and its practice is necessary for progressing to the higher, more esoteric layers of the Path.

Introduction to the Circle’s Esoteric Belief System

At the core of the Circle’s esoteric worldview lies the belief in two divine forces:

  • the Divine Mother, who is depicted as a female four-armed Arch Fae of incomprehensible beauty

  • the Dragon Father, who takes the form of a golden dragon of immense power

These two divine figures represent consciousness and energy, respectively. In the words of the Circle’s scripture: “Consciousness permeates all things. It is the vessel that creates space for the universe to emerge. Energy is the substance that fills the vessel, giving rise to reality as we experience it through our senses and organs of cognition.”

Despite its initial appearance, philosophers and scholars characterize the belief system of the Circle of Sorcerers as monistic, meaning that the Divine Mother and the Dragon Father are described as simply two aspects of the “One Supreme Being with one million eyes” that creates, sustains, and dissolves all aspects of reality — both physical or non-physical, inert matter or living beings.

Moreover, this belief system is compatible with all other religious systems of Mitraspera. The practitioners of the Path believe that these deities are facets of the One Supreme Being which has decided to present itself in a concealed way instead of to its fullness. This is why Shrines of Sorcery act as a worshiping ground of any deity. It is not uncommon to see symbols or artifacts that represent different deities when you visit a shrine.

The more advanced esoteric practices of the Path aim to awaken practitioners to this non-dual view. The goal is to experientially understand the true nature of reality, ultimately enabling them to manipulate its energetic potential to its fullest extent.

Progression in the Circle of Sorcerers

Students / The Outer Circle

Students comprise the “outer” circle. Anyone who has shown interest in the teachings and practices of the Path is considered a student. Students can tap into their life force when guided by an Aspirant or True Master. They feel an attraction to the philosophy of the Path but they haven’t (yet) dedicated themselves fully to the art of Sorcery. They are the most diverse group of followers of the Path. Everyone can become a student: the only requirement is an aptitude towards and interest for the Path.

Initiates

Initiates represent the first “inner” circle. Initiates have shown dedication towards the art of Sorcery and they are considered members of the Circle of Sorcerers. To become an initiate, one has to pass an initiation challenge that exhibits the potential of the student to perform a magic ritual. Once an initiate, they can participate in the decision making process of the Shrine of Sorcery they’ve joined and gain access to the more esoteric teaching of the Circle of Sorcerers.

Aspirants

Aspirants are committed initiates who have stayed in the Path for many years, showing their dedication, talent, and understanding. Aspirants have gone through multiple initiatory challenges that have proved their commitment and skills in the art of Sorcery. Senior aspirants are asked by their master to travel the world, establish a new Shrine of Sorcery and spread the Path.

True Masters

True Masters of the Path have awoken to the experiential understanding of deeper truths about reality. One can become a True Master in an instant through a divine act of inspiration, yet most True Masters have achieved this state after years of energetic, somatic, and  cognitive practices. True Masters can tap into one or more of the following aspects of the One Supreme Being: True Will, True Understanding, True Speech, True Action, or True Bliss.

Illuminated Beings

Illuminated Beings are Masters who have attained sustained union with the One Supreme Being. They can travel in realms that are beyond the understanding of most students of the Path and they have transcended the limitations of mortal existence, time, and space.
